Building a successful business takes time, effort and patience.
It requires that you make intentional and strategic decisions that will allow your business to grow with purpose.
While networking events can be an incredible business building opportunity, business owners make many critical mistakes.
It’s with this in mind that I sat down to interview Kelli Holmes with the Team Referral Network and asked her to share tips, tools and strategies for successful networking both offline and online.
If you’re ready to use networking to grow your business, you’ll love what Kelli has to share.
Below is an excerpt from our conversation along with the video interview of our entire conversation.
Networking to Grow Your Business
How can business owners become better networkers and use it strategically to grow their business?
One of the best techniques I teach is to stop collecting a stack of business cards. For so many years we were taught to go to a networking event and get as many cards as possible and then follow up.
That follow up was email or a card and that’s just not effective any more. Now you need a plan of action. You need an effective message, not a laundry list of what you do and the problems that you solve.
Your message should be short and come straight from the heart.
What should business owners do when they walk into a networking event?
At your next networking event take the time to go deep with just two people.
Rather than meeting a ton of people, focus on just two potential power partner relationships. This is someone who you genuinely believe you can partner with and truly give value to.
Meet less people and work on developing the relationship.
